Anybotics Secures Additional $60M For US Expansion

Swiss robotics company Anybotics has secured an additional $60 million in funding, bringing its total Series B round to a remarkable $110 million. This announcement comes 18 months after the company initially revealed its $50 million Series B raise, marking a significant milestone in its journey to revolutionize industrial inspections.

From ETH Zürich to Industry Leader

Founded in 2016 as a spinout from the renowned ETH Zürich research university, Anybotics has developed a cutting-edge quadruped autonomous inspection robot called Anymal. Equipped with advanced sensors and cameras, Anymal is designed to monitor industrial equipment and perform a wide array of inspection tasks. These include:

  • Detecting thermal anomalies for preventive maintenance.

  • Identifying the presence of combustible gases in hazardous environments.

Dr. Péter Fankhauser, co-founder and CEO of Anybotics, highlighted the transformative potential of their technology: “Anybotics addresses the challenge of performing routine inspections in complex and hazardous industrial environments. By automating these tasks, we minimize human exposure to dangerous or hard-to-reach areas, reduce downtime through more frequent inspections and higher coverage, and streamline maintenance processes, leading to higher productivity and operational reliability.”

Rapid Growth and Industry Adoption

Since the initial tranche of its Series B funding, Anybotics has doubled its sales, with nearly 200 robots now operational in industries such as oil and gas, mining, power, utilities, and metals. Notable clients include:

  • Novelis: A leader in aluminum rolling and recycling.

  • Iamgold: A major player in gold mining.

  • Stelco: A prominent steel milling company.

  • Stanford University: Utilizing Anymal for advanced research purposes.

Dr. Fankhauser explained the growing demand for Anymal robots: “Our customers deploy anywhere from a single robot to fleets exceeding 10 robots, with the largest customer orders close to 20 robots. Fleet orders are increasingly common, as many of our industrial clients operate over 100 facilities globally, each with the potential to deploy multiple Anymal robots.”

A Future of Safer, Smarter Inspections

Anymal’s success underscores its potential to transform industrial operations. By automating routine inspections in complex environments, it not only enhances safety but also boosts efficiency and operational reliability. As industries continue to prioritize predictive maintenance and risk reduction, Anybotics is well-positioned to lead this paradigm shift.

With $110 million in Series B funding, Anybotics is poised to scale its operations and further refine its technology, paving the way for a safer, smarter future in industrial automation. Keep an eye on this Swiss robotics trailblazer as it continues to shape the future of autonomous inspection.
